SPAIN
Azucar Moreno
Bandido
Song: This is probably one of the best openers of an ESC ever. We all know what happened in Zagreb of course, though they handled that pretty well. Without the video the song got quite lost on stage. I think they were fab in the video but live the vocals were a bit frail. I really like them and you should check out other songs from them on Youtube.
Video: the combination of old masters and Zorro on a white horse makes sense somehow... no ? or ? 😆
My score for this preview video: 7/10
GREECE
Christos Callow & Wave
Horis skopo
Song: I know this ain't the typical Eurovisionish song but I always somehow like this, even when it probably already sounded very dated back in 1990. Mind you the sound of the Greek language always makes me feel happy or whatever, so that helps !
Video: I wonder how long he had to stand or hang on the side of that boat before the video was filmed completely. The typical Greek 'let us show you our beautiful country' preview clip. Let's be honest though, it's breathtaking beautiful ! One thing more... do you think the backing vocalist, the woman in the white dress, is the same one doing the backings for Turkey 1990 ? (watch that one later in this post) ❔
My score for this preview video: 6/10
BELGIUM
Philippe Lafontaine
Macédomienne
Song: My first post about the preview videos on this blog and I've already come to my fave Belgian song in ESC history ! This song is simply perfect. Very talented singer, who sadly lost his 'Macédomienne' several years ago. This is one of those songs which probalby sounded better live than it did in studio version. Is it clear I adore this song ? 💖
Video: An old warehouse, piles of old chairs, a band and a fab song, nothing more needed for this great preview video. It suited the song perfectly !
My score for this preview video: 8/10
TURKEY
Kayahan
Gözlerinin hapsindeyim
Song: Those were the years when Turkey sent those typical feel good songs and this is probably the best of the bunch ! It aged pretty well if you ask me and I still play this a lot. On the night itself it sounded very good and his backing singer did wonders on stage ! Yet another underrated song for Turkey. 😒😒😒
Video: Just like the Greeks, the Turks love to show us the beauty of their country ! I keep watching wondering what scenery will come next, with the jolly sing along song in the background. Love it !
My score for this preview video: 8.50/10
